There are many types of pearls from oysters, depending on family type and are named as follows:
Freshwater pearls, Akoya seawater pearls, Tahitian Pearls and Pearls.
All these types are cultured pearls and natural pearls are rarity. Freshwater pearls that are harvested in freshwater lakes, lakes and rivers is the cheapest of all and available in abundance. They are very affordable. Then comes the sea water Akoya pearls and the name means Akoya saltwater in the Japanese language. The culture technique was originally developed by the famous Japanese man named Mikimoto, in part, early 19th century. But now China is on the cultivation of pearls and Akoya pearls, both fresh water to a much larger scale.
Most of us may not have any real idea of how pearls are graded and valued when it comes to quality and pricing. Unlike diamonds are evaluated based on four Cs: Cut, Carat, color and clarity, natural jewelry pearls that occur naturally within the oyster. They grow in many shapes and sizes and humans have little or no control. More Moreover, water quality and weather conditions often play an important role in the cultivation of pearls.
Since pearls come in different sizes, shapes and colors, which are rated A to AAA, depending on quality. Luster is the king and nobody wanted to buy pearls looking dull, no matter how cheaper they are. Often, many jewelers sell as AAAA and that's just the hype perhaps for more money.
There are six factors that determine the value of pearls and pearl jewelry:
Pearl Luster: A combination of brightness surface and inner radiance. A very good brightness means higher value of pearls.
Pearl Luster, Pearl surface, the size of the Pearl, Pearl Shape Pearl Colorand.
Pearl Nacre: The iridescent internal layer of a mollusk shell. It is a natural substance secreted by the oyster to protect your sensitive skin. The nacre intestine is very prone to peeling and chopping while thicker layer commands more value for their depth more brightness.
Pearl Surface: If the outer surface is very clean and has very few flaws such pearls carry higher value. For highest quality pearls have a mirror finish and no surface blemishes.
Size Pearl: Pearls are measured in millimeters (mm) in diameter. Large size pearls carry higher prices. Even 1 mm makes the difference. The average most sold pearls today are between 6.5 mm and 7.5 mm and are preferred choice of many young women. Depending on age, taste, status and many more styles are size as well.
Pearl Color: The color or the color of the body surface. Most irradiated or dyed pearls have surface colors. The natural colors are white pearl, black, champagne, green, gray, aqua and gold. Again within each category there are common overtones. White with pink hues are very white skin and cream or gold tones look fabulous on darker complexions. The most important thing is the woman's personal taste and preferences.
Pearl Shape: The perfect round shape always have higher values, but near or round off round pearl is very common in high demand and sold everyday. Pearls not limited to the round shape and other shapes just as the tear, pear, potato, coin and irregular baroque shape pearls are equally popular among women and commonly used by jewelers and designers alike.
